Omron's Achievements

OMRON has grown as a pioneer in automation
through the establishment of unique sensing and control technologies.

Year 1933 - Development of a Timer for X-ray Machines

OMRON was founded in Japan in 1933. Starting with the development of a timer for X-ray
machines, improvements were made to the relays that were used in the timers and a general purpose relay was developed for power switch boards. Our business then expanded as a special factory for productions of relays.

Year 1943 - Manufacture of a Micro Switch in Japan

In 1943, OMRON succeeded in the domestic manufacture of a micro switch that had an astounding high performance at the time. At about half the size of a matchbox it had a lifetime of more than 100,000 operations. This is when OMRON was first considered to be a pioneer in automation devices.

Year 1960 - Development of a Solid-state Proximity Sensor

When the automation market expanded in the 1960s, OMRON developed an amazing solid state proximity sensor in response to the need for a basic switch with higher performance and
longer life. This created the opportunity to accelerate the application of electronic devices
to automation.
